白幡神社

常胤之孙在此地击败平家势力的交战战场

据白幡神社的传说,最初这里供奉的是结城稻荷神。治承四年（1180年）,在房总半岛重新集结的源赖朝竖起了象征源氏的白旗,因此这片地区便被称为“白幡”（白旗）。
这片区域曾被称为“结城”。在南北朝时代编纂的《源平战争记录》中记载,当时,千叶常胤率军迎接源赖朝之际,平家势力的千田亲正（或称千田政）趁机袭击千叶氏的据点。然而,常胤的孙子千叶成胤在结城的海滨迎战,并在千叶氏的守护神——妙见菩萨的庇佑下取得胜利。
据说,这场战斗打破了平家在关东地区的部分势力,因此具有重要的历史意义。
在战国时代的文献《千学集拔粹》和《千叶妙见大缘起绘卷》中,也有相关记载,称当时在结城野立起了20至30面白旗,这一传说与白幡神社的名称起源密切相关。
此外,在此地附近,还流传着其他与白旗传说相关的遗迹和故事,例如,“君待桥”（据说是千叶常胤迎接源赖朝之地）,以及“御茶之水”（相传当地人在此地向源赖朝献上茶水）。这些历史传说表明,当地居民曾将思绪寄托于镰仓幕府成立前的这段历史,并世代相传。

츠네타네(常胤)의 손자가 헤이케(平家)측을 물리친 전투의 장소

시라하타(白幡)신사에 전해 내려오는 이야기에 따르면, 처음 이곳은 유우키이나리(結城稲荷)를 모시고 있었습니다. 지쇼(治承) 4년(1180), 보소(房総)반도에서 재기한 미나모토요리토모(源頼朝)가 미나모토(源)씨의 흰 깃발(白旗)을 세웠다고 해서, 시라하타(白旗, 흰 깃발)라는 이름으로 불리게 되었다고 전해집니다. 

이 지역은 예전에는 유우키(結城)라고 불렸습니다. 남북조(南北朝)시대 『겐페이토조록』(源平闘諍録)에는 요리토모를 맞이하러 나간 지바츠네타네(千葉常胤)의 부재를 틈타 공격해 온 헤이케측의 지다치카마사(千田親正)를, 츠네타네의 손자인 지바나리타네(千葉成胤)가 유우키의 해변에서 맞서 싸웠고, 지바씨의 수호신인 묘켄(妙見)의 도움을 받아 승리했다고 전해지고 있습니다.이 전투는 간토(関東)에서 헤이케측의 일각을 무너뜨린 전투로 평가됩니다. 전국(戦国)시대의 『센가쿠슈 밧스이』(千学集抜粋, 센가쿠슈 발췌)와 『지바묘켄다이엔기에마끼』(千葉妙見大縁起絵巻. 지바묘켄다이엔기 그림두루마리)에 따르면 유우키 평야에 흰 깃발 20~30개를 세웠다고 하며, 이러한 에피소드로부터 시라하타 신사의 이름이 유래하였다고 전해지고 있습니다. 

이 부근에는 흰 깃발에 관련된 이야기 이외에도, 츠네타네가 요리토모를 맞이한 기미마치바시(君待橋, 기미마치다리)와 요리토모에게 차를 바친 오차노미즈(お茶の水, 찻물) 등 지바씨 및 요리토모에 관한 이야기들이 전해지고 있습니다. 가마쿠라(鎌倉) 막부가 세워질때까지의 역사의 한장면에는, 지역 사람들이 가깝게 관련되어 있음을 엿볼 수 있을 것입니다.

Shirahata Shrine

The site where Chiba Tsunetane’s grandson defeated the Heike Clan

According to legend, Yūki Inari was originally enshrined at Shirahata Shrine. It is said that the name of Shirahata Shrine came about in 1180, when Minamoto Yoritomo raised the white flag of the Minamoto Clan there after regaining power in the Boso Peninsula.
This area was once known as “Yūki”. The “Genpei War Chronicles” were a record of the battles which occurred during the Nanboku-chō Period and legend tells of how Chiba Tsunetane’s grandson, Chiba Naritane, was on his way to welcome Minamoto Yoritomo at Yūki Beach. There, he intercepted Chida Chikamasa of the Heike Clan. With the help of Chiba Myōken, the guardian deity of the Chiba Clan, Naritane won the battle. As a result, his success in the battle was seen to have reduced the influence and power of the Heike Clan in the Kantō area. According to the “Sengakushū” (a collection of records stored at Chiba Myōken, now Chiba Shrine) and the “Chiba Myōken Picture Scroll of Great Fortune” from the Warring States period, about twenty to thirty white flags were erected at Yūki and it is thought that this legend led to the name “Shirahata”. 
In addition to legends about the white flag, there are other legends about the Chiba Clan and Minamoto Yoritomo from this area, such as when Chiba Tsunetane welcomed Yoritomo to Chiba at Kimimachi Bridge and presented him with tea. It is evident that the local people considered this story to be a part of the process which led to the creation of the Kamakura Shogunate.
