稻荷神社

 守护千叶町南端的守护神

稻荷神社自古以来被称为“御达报 (五田保)稻荷”,位于连接房总和千叶的街道（房总往返）安房国 (现在的千叶县南部) 、上总 (现在的千叶县中部) 方向进入千叶町的入口处。

 在千叶妙见宫 (现在的千叶神社) 流传记录中记载到《千学集摘录》,从若叶区贝冢町的曾场鹰神社到御达报稻荷神社之间是千叶町,御达报稻荷是守护町南端的神,此外曾场鹰神社、结城神明 (现在的神明神社) 、千叶寺龙藏权现等神明也守护着千叶町。

稻荷神社位于町的边界,沿街靠近寒川凑,也有码头,守护着这一重要场所,深受千叶氏的推崇。在嫡男的元服 (成人仪式用) 中,缴纳供奉金的记录被留存了下来。
在中世纪的千叶町,从位于横跨都川桥 (现在的大和桥)南侧的市场到通往稻荷神社之间,有许多商人和工匠的房屋,被称为“宿人/房客”。因为稻荷也是工商业之神,所以稻荷神社也深受商人们的信仰。

이나리 신사

지바마을 남쪽 끝을 지키는 수호신

옛부터 '고탓포(御達報) 이나리'라 불리던 이나리 신사(稲荷神社)는, 보소(房総)와 지바를 잇는 가도(房総往還)가 통하며, 아와노쿠니(安房国, 지바현 남부)와 가즈사노쿠니(上総国, 지바현 중부) 방면에서 지바마을로 들어오는 입구쪽에 있었습니다.

지바 묘켄구(妙見宮, 현 지바신사)에 전해지는 기록서 『천학집 발췌』에 의하면, 와카바구(若葉区) 가이즈카초(貝塚町)에 있었다던 소바타카 신사(曽場鷹神社)에서 고탓포이나리(御達報稲荷)까지가 치바마을이었다는 기록과 고탓포 이나리가 지바마을의 남쪽 끝을 지키는 신이었다는 점, 그리고 소바타카 신사, 유우키 신메이 (結城神明, 현 신메이 신사), 지바사(千葉寺) 류조곤겐(龍蔵権現) 등의 신들이 지바마을을 수호하던 신이었다는 기록이 전해지고 있습니다.

마을의 경계 부근에 위치하며, 가도를 따라 가면 사무가와 미나토(寒川湊)와도 가깝고, 선착장도 있는 중요한 이 곳을 지키는 이나리 신사는, 지바씨 가문으로부터 깊은 신앙의 대상이었습니다. 적자의 원복(元服, 성인 의식)에 봉헌금을 바쳤다는 기록이 남아 있습니다.

중세 치바마을에는 미야코가와(都川)에 놓인 다리(현 야마토바시) 남쪽에 시장이 있었으며, 시장에서 이나리 신사까지는 '슈쿠닌(宿人)이라 불리는 상인과 장인들이 거주하는 집들이 쭉 늘어서 있었습니다. 이나리는 상공업의 신으로 여겨져, 이나리 신사는 상인들로부터 깊은 신앙을 받았습니다.

Inari Shrine

The Guardian Deity of the Southern Part of Chiba City

Previously known as “Gotappo Inari Shrine”, the ancient Inari Shrine served as the gateway to the city of Chiba. It was located at the entrance to Chiba when coming to Chiba using the Bōsō Ōkan road which ran from the Awa Province (currently the southern region of Chiba Prefecture) to the Kazusa Province (currently the central region of Chiba Prefecture).
According to the “Sengakushū”, a collection of records which was stored at Chiba Myōken Shrine (currently Chiba Shrine), Chiba City was located between Sobataka Shrine in Kaizuka-chō, Wakaba Ward and Gotappo Inari Shrine. Gotappo Inari Shrine was the guardian deity of the southern part of the city. Additionally, the records also revealed that Sobataka Shrine, Yūkishinmei (currently Shinmei Shrine) and Chiba Ryūzōgongen were also guardian deities for the city.
Cherished by the Chiba Clan, Inari Shrine was located on the city’s border and it was close to both the main road and Samugawa Minato, making it an important arrival destination for ships. It was recorded that a votive offering was made there for the coming of age ceremony for the heir of the Chiba Clan. 
In the medieval city of Chiba, a market was located on the south side of the bridge (currently known as the Yamato Bridge) which went over the Miyako River. There was a row of houses located between the market and the shrine known as “Shukunin” and this is where merchants and craftsmen lived. As Inari was the “god of commerce and industry”, Inari Shrines were deeply revered by merchants.
